Elizabeth Goins Perry Memorial Scholarship Fund
The Elizabeth Goins Perry Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 2013 by Michelle Cole in honor of her aunt Elizabeth Goins Perry. The scholarship awards $1,000 for a Black woman from Kentucky to use toward her education.
Impact
Elizabeth Goins Perry was beautiful inside and out. Sweet, intelligent, outspoken, and full of wisdom, she was the second of 11 children. Elizabeth was born in Tennessee but was raised in Middlesboro, Kentucky. She married and moved to Portland, Oregon where she lived a full, colorful life until the age of 104.
Elizabeth was both Black and Native American. She didn’t have the opportunity to seek higher education, but her niece, Michelle, knew she would have loved to go to college. It is in this spirit that Michelle is establishing this memorial scholarship fund to help another young Black woman with her education.
